If you want to get a car in your garage with a British manufacturing name tag to it and it being a great performer, then you will find it in the Lotus Cars.
They are specially made to be able to bring about a great output so that no matter whether you want a racecar or a sports car you will find the same features in the Lotus Cars that you get to buy. They are not only sleek in appearance and extremely lightweight but they are great to handle. All of these features ensure that they go about to bring about a great amount of performance. This is what makes these Lotus Cars great on the sales volumes and brings in a whole lot of money for their manufacturing units as buyers keep reaching out for them.
The Lotus Cars founder was Anthony Colin Chapman and he himself was a great racing enthusiast of that time. The very first of Lotus Cars was built in the year 1948 and it was used by the founder to participate in the races.
Lotus Cars Company was officially put together in the year 1955. The first car was unveiled in the year 1957 and it was called the Lotus elite. This was one unique and innovative car as it was one of the lightest Coupes around. It had a unibody construction and the use of fiberglass in the body, skeleton and skin. This was the first car to use this kind of a material throughout the car. This greatly brought about a reduction in the weight of the car. This was what made this car a great one at the races as its low weight allowed it to get the winning edge over the other cars that were around.
Then, in the year 1960 there was the Elan that was introduced. This car from Lotus Cars was first launched as a roadster and in a twin cam engine with a four wheel disc brakes and also a four wheel independent suspension. The hardtop version of this car was introduced later.
The Elan Plus was added in the year 1967 and it was a car that was just as Sporty and had the same principles and USP of being the best of cars that was lightweight and made of fiberglass entirely. This car had a beautiful large cabin to it with a distinguishing wedge shaped exterior. This was somewhat synonymous to the car that James Bond drove around in.
The cars that were manufactured by Lotus Cars in the 1970s got the company a whole lot of profit and creditability. Lotus Cars were now considered to be quite premium range of cars that could bring about a whole brand image of the person driving in it.
Even until this day the Lotus Cars remain to be the most lightweight cars around and are geared to be the sports car on the best of race tracks.
