This is my personal car makers shrine page.
The journey for Saab Cars started in Sweden with a company by the name of Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget which was the Svenska Aircraft Company. The first of the automobiles were manufactured in the year 1949.
The earliest of cars were all based on the aerodynamics and the streamlined image that is so very reminiscent of the time of it being a manufacturer of aircraft. The first car the Saab 92 had a lower coefficient compared to many modern cars of today.
In the year 1955 Saab Cars rolled out another car called 93. This was a car that had a three cylinder engine to it and 33 horsepower. This car had an excellent fast track profile to it that made it a car that was easily recognized on the road because of the fast speed at which it went.
The 95 wagon that was introduced later on was able to seat up to seven people and was the first of large Saab Cars. In the year 93 another car that was introduced by Saab Cars was the 750 Gran Turismo. This was the very first series built sports car from Saab Cars.
The most successful of Saab Cars the marquee Saab 96 was started production in the year 1960s. This car had a production of twenty years and was the car that made the Saab Cars recognizable on the international map. The sports success that the Saab Cars faced on the track and off it was phenomenal. It brought instant recognition for the kind of quality and performance that one was promised from these cars.
Then came about the 1973, 99 Combi Coupe which was the quintessential Saab Cars what with the hatchback, the fold down rear seat and the incredible utility that these cars were renowned for. This was the most wonderful car that had the best of turbo technology to it. The Saab 900 was the first car that had a cabin air filter to it.
The Turbo models of the Saab Cars gained great popularity in the American markets and had plenty of buyers to it. The buyers were young professionals who had made it big in life and wanted a car to show that off. The next launch was that of the Saab Aero which a first was again for Saab Cars in the reign of being the first one to have a 16 valve turbo engine to it.
In the year 1990, General Motors became a part of Saab Cars by buying off half of its automobile unit. By the 2000s unfortunately the popularity of these Saab Cars was waning in the market especially in the American market.
Saab Cars somewhere down the line was not viewed positively by General Motors and was sold to the Swedish Company Koenigsegg. Though, General Motors continued to play an important role in the future of Saab Cars. Saab Cars continue to try and appeal to the younger buyer and less affluent buyers.
