The Volkswagen Cars were first introduced in the year 1934 by Ferdinand Porsche. The idea behind this was to go ahead and build the most fantastic of small and inexpensive cars. In the 1950s, Volkswagen Cars began to get in more models to them. There was the addition of the Bus type 2. The versatility of the Bus type 2 made it extremely popular with the buyers and ended up being one of the favorite of models from the Volkswagen Cars unit. The Beetle in the meantime notched up sales of one million in a short time.

The Beetle continued to be the best selling of cars for Volkswagen Cars throughout the years and way into the 1960s. in the year 1972, there were more than 15 million units of Beetle cars.

All of these models had the front mounted and water cooled engines. The first of these was in the form of the Passat and then followed by Golf which was called the Rabbit in the United States. Later on the Beetle was discontinued in the United States market and it was taken over by the Golf.

However, in the 1990s the Volkswagen Cars had to see a fall in their fortunes in the US markets. But, a great deal of advertising and marketing enabled them to be able to come out with antoher Volkswagen Motorsport which was in the shape of a newly launched Beetle car.

Then, Volkswagen Cars tried their hand at the luxury segment of cars. This was in the shape of two new cars that were introduced such as the Phaeton sedan and the Touareg SUV. This continued the precedent of well crafted vehicles from Volkswagen Cars.
